Eco-friendly road innovations made in Germany

The Cold Recycling Method of road construction is a sustainable process where the existing road surface is milled, processed with binding agents, and then reapplied and compacted on-site. This approach reuses materials without the need for high-temperature heating, saving resources, reducing emissions, and providing a durable road foundation with minimal environmental impact.

1. Material Removal

The process starts by removing the top layer of the road surface using milling machines. Only the damaged material is removed to a precise depth, preparing the surface for recycling.

2. Material Processing

The removed material is crushed and mixed on-site with binding agents. This step strengthens the material, making it suitable for long-term use. The type of binder depends on climate, traffic load, and environmental factors.

3. Reinstallation

The processed material is evenly spread back onto the roadbed, creating a consistent base layer that will support upper layers and traffic. Specialized equipment ensures an even distribution.

4. Compaction

The freshly laid material is compacted with heavy rollers to increase its density and stability. Effective compaction enhances load-bearing capacity and prevents deformations, providing a durable road foundation.
